Ron Rivera: Dwayne Haskins needs to be better for Washington

The Washington Football Team players "deserve better" from quarterback Dwayne Haskins, head coach Ron Rivera said.

What It Means:

Rivera added that "there is a cut-off point for me" in waiting for Haskins to improve. This is a bit of a turn after Rivera said Sunday that he would "take his lumps" with Haskins on the heels of another disappointing performance. The second-year quarterback completed 21-of-37 attempts for 224 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions in a 34-20 loss to the Cleveland Browns. He also lost a fumble for a second straight game, giving Haskins 5 turnovers over the last two weeks. Haskins has the worst completion percentage (56.3) and third-lowest yards per attempt (6.2) among the 29 quarterbacks with at least 75 attempts this season. If Rivera decides to turn to Kyle Allen or Alex Smith, it could actually wind up benefitting Washington's pass-catcher. Haskins is unlikely to find things any easier next week in a brutal matchup against the Baltimore Ravens.

Haskins scored 12.2 FanDuel points on Sunday, failing to reach 13.0 FanDuel points for a third consecutive game. He is one of only six starting quarterbacks this season with negative Passing Net Expected Points. The Ravens currently have the second-best passing defense in numberFire's advanced rankings.
