Chargers claim Tyrod Taylor (ribs) is still preferred option
Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Tyrod Taylor (ribs) gives the team "the best chance to win," head coach Anthony Lynn claimed.
"I know we can win with either quarterback," Lynn said, "but the veteran quarterback right now gives us the best chance to win. It’s not like we won the damn game yesterday. We lost last time I checked.” Taylor was inactive for the Chargers' overtime loss against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday because he experienced complications from a pregame injection for a rib injury he reportedly suffered in practice on Friday. First-round pick Justin Herbert proved to be a major upgrade for the offense in his NFL debut as he completed 22-of-33 passes for 311 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. However, Lynn seems committed to his man and Taylor should be fine for Week 3 in a plus spot against the Carolina Panthers.
Tyrod scored 9.02 FanDuel points and averaged 0.11 Passing Net Expected Points per attempt in Week 1 while Herbert put up 23.24 with 0.24 Passing NEP per attempt in his NFL debut. The Panthers currently rank 23rd in pass defense, per numberFire's advanced metrics.
