The Cincinnati Bengals believe tight end C.J. Uzomah suffered a torn Achilles during a 35-30 loss to the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night, reports Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Uzomah will likely miss the rest of the season if the Bengals are correct. He suffered the injury in the fourth quarter while fighting for a first down. Uzomah had 4 catches for 42 yards and a touchdown on 6 catches before exiting. 2019 second-rounder Drew Sample is expected to take over the starting tight end role moving forward. Sample finished with 7 catches on 9 targets for 45 yards in Week 2, with 6 of those targets coming after Uzomah exited. The Bengals will face the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3.
Uzomah scored the third-most FanDuel points (12.2) among all tight ends and receivers playing on Thursday night. The Eagles gave up 11.7 FanDuel points to tight ends in Week 1 and ranked 16th in passing defense, per numberFire's advanced metrics. Uzomah added 0.72 Receiving Net Expected Points per target, compared to 0.39 for Sample.
