Dolphins name Ryan Fitzpatrick Week 1 starter

Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick will be the starter in the team's Week 1 game against the New England Patriots, Brian Flores announced Monday.

What It Means:

Fitzpatrick was expected to be the starting quarterback over Tua Tagovailoa, though the latter is healthier than originally anticipated. In fact, he's so healthy that the team parted ways with Josh Rosen over the weekend, leaving Tagovailoa and Fitzpatrick the only two quarterbacks on the roster. It's expected that the rookie could make his way into the starting lineup sooner than later, but until further notice, Fitzpatrick is the man in charge in Miami.

The Miami Dolphins have an 18.25 implied total against the Pats in Week 1, the second-lowest figure on the slate. While Fitzpatrick is known to make his money in garbage time, he could be in for a tough day, as numberFire's models project him for just 6.65 yards per attempt against the Patriots defense. Overall, they project the 37-year-old for 240.9 passing yards, 1.3 touchdowns, 1.1 interceptions, 10.3 rushing yards and 14.7 FanDuel points.
