Adrian Peterson

Washington releases Adrian Peterson

The Washington Football Team released running back Adrian Peterson.

What It Means:

Peterson was expected to open the season as Washington's primary early-down back but the team appears to have different plans. Peyton Barber and second-year back Bryce Love could take care of early downs while rookie Antonio Gibson and J.D. McKissic also factor in as versatile playmakers. Gibson and Love offer the most upside and figure to take on most of Peterson's workload. It's also possible that Washington re-signs Peterson after Week 1 when his salary isn't guaranteed.

Following Peterson's release, Gibson is now the RB29 in numberFire's preseason fantasy rankings. Our models expect him to have 202.0 touches, 995.5 offensive yards, and 5.9 touchdowns. Love is the RB40 and projected for 168.8 touches, 781.2 yards, and 4.3 touchdowns.
