Matt Breida in 'competition' with Dolphins' running back room
Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores said of the team's running back room that 'there's a lot of competition in that room.'
The Dolphins acquired Matt Breida via trade from the San Francisco 49ers during the 2020 NFL Draft, before bolstering their depth by signing Jordan Howard. The Dolphins featured one of the weakest running back groups in the league a season ago, but now have a decent corps that is expected to form a committee.
Our models project Breida (131.5) and Howard (168.8) to split the ground work almost evenly this season, but have given a slight bump to Howard. The Dolphins will have some of the weakest offensive line play in the league this season, but Breida (the league's fastest player according to Next Gen Stats' tracking data) has the skill set to flash even in a committee. He's our RB37 heading into the season.
