Panthers' Cam Newton wins 2015 Most Valuable Player

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has been named the 2015 Most Valuable Player by the Associated Press.

What It Means:

Newton was the clear MVP front runner all year long. His career highs came without top wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin. His play elevated a middling offensive cast to a 15-win season and Super Bowl appearance. Newton won MVP in a landslide, getting 48 first-place votes. He also beat Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown (10 votes) for Offensive Player of the Year.

Among passers with at least 100 drop backs, Newton ended the regular season ranked eighth in Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per drop back. Newton threw for 3,837 yards, 35 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in the regular season. He rushed for 636 yards and 10 touchdowns, making him the first player in history to post 30-plus pass touchdowns and 10 rushing touchdowns.
