Washington Redskins president Bruce Allen said the team has opened extension talks with free agent Kirk Cousins.
"We’ve had discussions with his representative," Allen said. "We feel good. Kirk wants to be a Washington Redskin. It will work itself out." Cousins is likely targeting an Alex Smith-type deal after throwing for 4,166 yards and leading the league in completion percentage. Putting the franchise tag on Cousins would cost around $19.7 million.
Among passers with at least 100 drop backs, Cousins ranked seventh in Passing NEP per drop back. He wrapped his first full season as a starter with a 29 touchdowns, 11 picks and a league-best 69.8 completion percentage.
