Broncos' Melvin Gordon expects a competition with Phillip Lindsay
In a recent interview with LaDainian Tomlinson, new Denver Broncos running back Melvin Gordon said he expects to compete with teammate Phillip Lindsay for the lead back role.
He added that he's looking forward to learning from Lindsay, himself a Pro-Bowler, and that he has been hitting the gym often during the offseason. Gordon signed a sizeable 2-year, $16-million contract with the Broncos earlier this offseason and is expected to take the lead back role, but the exact workload split between himself and Lindsay will be critical to determine each back's fantasy value.
Despite his small stature, Lindsay offers little in the passing game, whereas Gordon thrives in that area, with 40 or more receptions in each of his past four seasons. Gordon is the better physical fit for the lead back role, while Lindsay's top-notch burst makes him a perfect fit as a change-of-pace back. numberFire currently projects Gordon as the RB22 for the 2020 season with 224.9 carries to Lindsay's 130 carries.
