Eagles sign Jalen Hurts to rookie contract
The Philadelphia Eagles have signed second round pick Jalen Hurts to a four-year contract.
The Eagles surprised just about everyone when they selected Hurts in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, not even a year after the team signed franchise quarterback Carson Wentz to a long-term deal. The Eagles know better than anyone just how valuable a backup quarterback can be, and Hurts was electric in his final year at Oklahoma. Hurts doesn't figure to see much playing time in his rookie season barring an injury to Wentz.
Hurts broke out almost immediately at Alabama, before eventually losing his starting job to the fifth overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, Tua Tagovailoa. He played out his final season at Oklahoma under Lincoln Riley, where he put up incredible counting stats with elite efficiency (12.2 adjusted yards per pass attempt), including an insane 1,298 rushing yards and 20 rushing touchdowns. If Wentz does suffer an injury this season, Hurts' rushing ability should immediately put him on your radars for fantasy football.
