Raiders' Darren Waller focused on benefits of player-led workouts

Las Vegas Raiders tight end Darren Waller believes that the Raiders can gain an edge from the player-led workouts he has been participating in with teammates this summer.

What It Means:

Waller, who has been training with teammates, including quarterback Derek Carr, at a local park, believes that the 90-minute workouts in scorching Las Vegas heat can give the team an advantage. Waller told The Athletic's Vic Tafur that "we can deal with extreme temperatures, we go right at it and we work, no excuses. I feel like that can pay dividends for us in the season, knowing that we can go into any kind of environment, hot or cold, and do our thing.” Waller had a breakout season for Las Vegas in 2019-20, hauling in 90 receptions on 115 targets (78.3%) for 1,146 yards (12.7 per reception) and 3 touchdowns. Waller's 1,146 yards were the second-most by a tight end last season, and his receptions (2nd) and targets (3rd) both ranked at the top of his position. Waller was Pro Football Focus' fifth-ranked tight end, with a grade of 83.2 (min 26 targets).

Waller is the TE6 in numberFire's preseason fantasy rankings. Our models expect him to record 102.9 targets, 71.2 receptions, 803.7 yards, and 4.3 touchdowns.
