Titans rookie Darrynton Evans expected to replace Dion Lewis
The Tennessee Titans official website confirms that 2020 third-round pick Darrynton Evans is expected to replace Dion Lewis as Derrick Henry's backup.
This was to be expected when the Titans let Lewis walk this offseason and when they spent prime draft capital on the small-school back. Evans was a dynamic, workhorse threat at Appalachian State, carrying the load for the team over his final two seasons and notching kick return touchdowns in each of his three years there.
Evans should be an upgrade over Lewis behind Henry, but it is unclear how much work we can expect for the rookie in his first season behind last year's carries leader. Lewis averaged just under 5 touches per game last year, but we can't know for sure whether that was due to Lewis' visible decline in play or due to the Titans wanting to ride Henry. numberFire projects Evans for 69.69 carries, 297.78 rushing yards and 2.09 rushing touchdowns in 2020, but he will be one of the most exciting handcuffs in the league.
