Nick Foles, Mitchell Trubisky to both play preseason with Bears' starters

Chicago Bears quarterbacks Mitchell Trubisky and Nick Foles will both play with the starters during the preseason, per head coach Matt Nagy.

What It Means:

Nagy barely played his starters last preseason, but he's switching it up ahead of the Bears' "open competition" under center. Foles may have an advantage over Trubisky due to his familiarity with new offensive coordinator Bill Lazor and new quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo, as well as two separate stints with Nagy. Foles turned 31 at the beginning of this year. Trubisky, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract, will be 26 when the season starts.

numberFire's models believe Foles will win the starting job and rank him as QB25 in numberFire's preseason fantasy rankings. Our models project him for 3,836.0 yards, 24.0 touchdowns, and 12.0 interceptions this season. Foles ranked 38th in numberFire's per-play passing metric last season out of 42 quarterbacks with at least 100 dropbacks. His average depth of target (8.4 yards) was 16th in that same group.
