Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs to talk extension this summer
The Kansas City Chiefs will begin negotiations with quarterback Patrick Mahomes this summer, per chairman and CEO Clark Hunt.
"The negotiations are something we'll be getting into this summer," Hunt said during a Facebook Live event with Dallas' 105.3 The Fan. "But what he has said and what we've said, both sides is, he wants to be a Kansas City Chief for life, and that's our mentality as well. We want him to play his entire career in Kansas City, and that's what we're going to be shooting for." Mahomes still has two more years left on his current contract, but the Chiefs are committed to getting something done well before then. The reigning Super Bowl MVP has 10 more passing touchdowns (76) than anyone else in the league over the past two seasons. He also has the second-most passing yards per game (304.3) in that span. Mahomes turns 25 in September.
Mahomes is the second-best player overall in numberFire's preseason fantasy rankings. Our models project him for 4,696.8 yards, 38.4 touchdowns, and 11.7 interceptions with another 203.5 yards and 2.2 touchdowns on the ground. He led all quarterbacks with at least 500 attempts last season in numberFire's advanced per-play passing metric.
