Chris Herndon

Chris Herndon to be 'unleashed' by Jets this season

The New York Jets "can’t wait to unleash" tight end Chris Herndon this season, writes Connor Hughes of The Athletic.

What It Means:

"The team had sky-high expectations for their tight end entering last season, but a league-imposed suspension and injuries limited him to just one healthy quarter," Hughes writes. This is the second time this offseason that Hughes has indicated the Jets remain bearish on Herndon, despite a disastrous 2019 campaign. He was suspended for the first four games, pulled his hamstring while preparing to return, and then played 18 snaps in his Week 10 debut before suffering a season-ending ribs injury. As a rookie in 2018, Herndon caught 39 passes on 56 targets for 502 yards and 4 touchdowns. He turned 24 in February.

numberFire's models project Herndon for 71.6 targets, 45.5 receptions, 495.0 yards, and 3.5 touchdowns this season. He's the TE22 in our preseason fantasy rankings.
