Lions sign defensive tackle John Penisini to rookie deal
The Detroit Lions have signed sixth-round pick defensive tackle John Penisini to a four-year contract.
Penisini was a two-year starter at Utah State, where he earned second-team all-conference honors in his final season. At 6'1" and 318 pounds, he projects to be a road-block run-stuffer at the NFL level. The Lions released Damon "Snacks" Harrison earlier this offseason, so Penisini has a shot at making an impact in his rookie season.
The 23-year-old did not impress when it came to rushing the passer, but was great at stopping the run in his final two seasons in Utah. Pro Football Focus, who had him ranked as the 101st overall player on their big board, considered Penisini to be a big time value for the Lions in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
