Laviska Shenault Jr. to play multiple roles for Jaguars

Jacksonville Jaguars second-round rookie wide receiver Laviska Shenault Jr. is expected to be used in a variety of roles, head coach Doug Marrone said after the draft.

What It Means:

"You can put him in the backfield. He can play Wildcat," Marrone said. "You can put him as the F tight end. You can do a lot of things with him. You see it on his tape in 2018 and 2019. That's one of the things we looked at." Shenault lined out wide, in the slot, at tight end, and in the backfield during his college career. He finished his career at Colorado with 149 catches, 42 rushing attempts, and 17 total touchdowns. That sort of versatility could earn Shenault a handful of touches right away, even if he doesn't win a starting job out of camp. There is some injury concern, as the second-rounder aggravated a groin issue that later required surgery on his only 40-yard attempt at the combine. He missed four games over his final two seasons at Colorado.

Shenault caught 150 passes (198 targets) for 1,951 yards (13.0 per catch) and 10 touchdowns as a three-year college player. He also tacked on 42 carries for 280 yards (6.7 per attempt) and 7 touchdowns. Per Pro Football Focus, only a quarter of Shenault's targets traveled beyond 10 yards of the line of scrimmage, but he tacked on an additional 7.5 yards after the catch last year and totaled 44 broken tackles after the catch over his last two seasons.
