Dante Pettis believed to be on 49ers' roster bubble

49ers wide receiver Dante Pettis is on the team's roster bubble, according to The Athletic's Matt Barrows.

What It Means:

Pettis has had a roller-coaster of a career since being drafted 44th overall by the 49ers in 2018. After a slow start to this rookie season, Pettis exploded in the second half, pulling down 24 receptions on 38 targets for 371 yards and 4 touchdowns over a six-week stretch before his season was cut short due to injury. He was expected to build upon that success in his sophomore season, but he got off to a rough start in training camp and never recovered, recording just 11 receptions for 109 yards and 2 touchdowns in 8 games. Now, it appears his future may be elsewhere after the emergence of Deebo Samuel and the addition of Brandon Aiyuk in the first round of this year's draft.

Pettis was Pro Football Focus' 165th ranked wide receiver last season, with a grade of just 56.4. A drastic drop from his rookie season, which saw him finish with a grade of 68.5, 68th best at his position and 8th best among first-year wideouts.
