Buccaneers ink O.J. Howard's fifth-year

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers exercised tight end O.J. Howard's fifth-year team option for 2021.

What It Means:

There was a bevy of rumors suggesting Howard would be traded following the Buccaneers acquisition of Rob Gronkowski, but it looks like he'll be returning to the Tampa Bay tight end room. Despite playing in the top passing offense in football last year, Howard's production fell to 32.8 yards per game and 13.5 per catch after recording 56.5 per and 16.6 per in 2018. The Buccaneers are expected to run more two-tight end sets than almost anyone in the league with Tom Brady and Gronk in tow, so Howard could be in line for a bounceback season.

Howard averaged 5.6 FanDuel points per game (TE33) but was pretty efficient, ranking 6th in yards per target (8.7) out of 30 tight ends with at least 45 targets. In 2018, Howard led that same group with 11.8 yards per target.
