49ers expect big things from slot receiver Trent Taylor
Matt Maiocco reports that the San Francisco 49ers expect "big things" from wide receiver Trent Taylor this season.
Taylor is entering his fourth season, and has struggled with his health dating back to his rookie season, which was ended prematurely by a rib fracture. He missed most of the following season with back issues, and the entirety of the 2019 season with a foot injury that required five separate surgeries to repair. Taylor was a valuable slot receiver when he was healthy back in 2017, but will have to fight for a role in 2020 behind Deebo Samuel, George Kittle and 2020 first-rounder Brandon Aiyuk.
The 49ers parted ways with veteran Emmanuel Sanders this season, but that in no way guarantees a roster spot for Taylor in 2020. While he was a valuable contributor on offense and on special teams back in 2017, his production was more akin to that of Danny Amendola's to that of Julian Edleman's for fantasy purposes. The 49ers certainly wouldn't mind having him back if he's healthy, but with Jalen Hurd on the mend there's no guarantee Taylor makes the final roster this fall.
