Texans reportedly want to discuss Deshaun Watson deal

The Houston Texans intend to negotiate a long-term deal with quarterback Deshaun Watson, reports Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.

What It Means:

The Texans are expected to exercise Watson's 2021 club option, per Wilson, but only as a formality. Ed Werder of ESPN reported last week that the Texans have engaged in "very preliminary" discussions with Watson on a potential contract extension. He has thrown for at least 3,800 yards and rushed for at least 400 more each of the last two seasons while totaling 52 passing touchdowns and 12 rushing scores.

Watson averaged 22.2 FanDuel points (QB2) with 256.8 passing yards and 27.5 rushing yards per game last season. His 67.3 completion percentage was sixth-best in the league and his 5.3 touchdown percentage was ninth. He had the eighth-highest average depth of target (8.9 yards) among quarterbacks with at least 100 attempts.
