Patriots reportedly remain disinterested in Cam Newton

The New England Patriots haven't shown any interest in free agent quarterback Cam Newton, reports Jeff Howe of The Athletic.

What It Means:

Howe reported the same thing a month ago. Newton only made it through the first two games last season before succumbing to a foot injury and he's also undergone multiple surgeries on his throwing shoulder since 2016. It's possible the Patriots are waiting for COVID-19 restrictions to be lifted so that they can give Newton a complete physical in person. As of now, Jarrett Stidham is the favorite to be the Patriots' starter in Week 1.

Cam averaged 8.8 FanDuel points with 286.0 passing yards and no touchdowns in two appearances last season. His 5.9 adjusted yards per pass attempt also marked a new career-low. He also took away a personal-worst .04 expected points per play, ranking 39th out of 46 quarterbacks with 90-plus dropbacks.
