Cameron Brate restructures deal to remain with Buccaneers

Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Cameron Brate restructured his contract.

What It Means:

The details haven't been revealed, but Brate was previously due $6 million this season, with $4 million guaranteed. There's a decent chance he would have been traded or cut for salary cap reasons, but the restructured deal allows Brate to stay in Tampa Bay. The six-year pro has the fourth-most touchdowns (27) among all tight ends over the past five years, but he's coming off career-lows in yards per catch (8.6) and yards per target (5.7). Brate's snap shares have also trended down each of the past three seasons. He could potentially compete with O.J. Howard as Tom Brady's third option in the passing game behind Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, but his contributions figure to mostly come as a blocker and in the red zone. Brate turns 29 in July.

Brate averaged 5.2 FanDuel points with 2.3 catches and 19.4 yards on 3.4 targets per game last season, totaling 4 touchdowns over 16 games. He had the third-fewest yards per target last season among the 41 tight ends with 30-plus targets.
