Former Atlanta Falcons defensive back Desmond Trufant is headed to the Detroit Lions on a two-year contract worth $21 million, according to Jordan Schultz of ESPN.
Trufant had spent his entire career in Atlanta to this point, but he was released by his former team Monday afternoon. An attempt to trade the All-Pro corner was made before he was cut, but nothing ever substantiated. It didn't take long for Trufant to find a new home, as he is headed north to play under head coach Matt Patricia, who has brought in a ton of players in the brief time free agency has been open.
In an injury-shortened 2019 in which he played just nine games, Trufant had 14 tackles, 4 interceptions and 7 pass defenses. Among those who played at least 20% of snaps, he ranked as the No. 32 cornerback on Pro Football Focus.
