The Detroit Lions signed defensive tackle Danny Shelton, formerly of the New England Patriots, to a 2-year, $8 million contract, reports Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Shelton didn't play under longtime Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia during his two-year stint in New England, but he is the fourth player to jump from the Patriots to Patricia's Lions in the past two offseasons. Shelton emerged as a starter in 2019, setting career-highs with 3.0 sacks, 61.0 tackles, and 6 quarterback hits. He turns 27 in August.
Shelton was credited with 9 quarterback pressures last season. He should be able to improve a Lions defense that ranked 27th in numberFire’s adjusted defensive metrics last season.
