Steelers expected to release Cortez Allen

The Pittsburgh Steelers to release cornerback Cortez Allen, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette expects.

What It Means:

Longtime reporter Ed Bouchette believes Allen's five-year, $26 million deal will go down as "one of the worst big-money contracts in Steelers history." Cutting Allen will create $4.4 million in cap space if he's designated as a post-June 1 release. Going on 28, Allen is recovering from a knee injury that limited him to one appearance in 2015. Allen was arguably the league's worst corner in 2014.

Allen's troubles in coverage did not affect the Steelers too much on the whole, as their defense still ranked 11th in the league in Adjusted Defensive Passing Net Expected Points this season.
