Eagles tab Chiefs' offensive coordinator Doug Pederson as new coach

The Philadelphia Eagles have hired Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Doug Pederson as their head coach.

What It Means:

The news was broken by the Philadelphia Daily News' Les Bowen. In a statement to the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Eagles said they have "concluded our search for a head coach." Pederson's hiring won't become official until the Chiefs' playoff run is through. An NFL assistant since only 2009, Pederson has served as Andy Reid's offensive coordinator since he arrived in Kansas City in 2013. He's overseen conservative, run-heavy units, but also produced despite limited weapons.

In 2015, Philadelphia ranked 23rd in Adjusted Offensive Net Expected Points (NEP) per play and 14th in Adjusted Defensive NEP per play. Under Pederson this season, Kansas City finished 14th in Adjusted Offensive NEP per play.
