Lions' first-rounder T.J. Hockenson expected to start year as backup
Detroit Lions first-round tight end T.J. Hockenson will "likely" begin the year as the number-two tight end behind Jesse James, according to Terez Paylor of Yahoo Sports.
Hockenson should usurp James at some point this season, but rookie tight ends tend to have a tougher time transitioning than other positions. On a positive note, Hockenson and Matthew Stafford are developing a strong rapport, which bodes well for the 22-year-old's future.
numberFire's models project Hockenson for 57.0 targets, 42.3 receptions, 430.7 yards, and 3.07 touchdowns this season. He's just outside the top-20 tight ends in our preseason fantasy rankings.
