DuJuan Harris, Bryce Brown to battle for Seahawks' starting job

Seattle Seahawks running backs DuJuan Harris and Bryce Brown will compete for the starting job, says head coach Pete Carroll.

What It Means:

Marshawn Lynch (abdomen) is still rehabbing away from the team and doesn't have a timetable. Thomas Rawls is done for the year after suffering an ankle injury in Week 14. Fred Jackson remains the third-down, passing-game back and isn't an option to start, per Carroll. This leaves Harris and Brown as the leading candidates for the early-down gig, with Derrick Coleman a distant third. Harris is just another guy, while Brown is the more exciting talent, but has as many fumbles (five) as he does career starts.

Harris turned 18 carries into 42 yards for a 2.33 yards per carry average against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, earning a team-low -6.61 Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP). He has 80 total carries for his career. Brown played seven games for the Buffalo Bills in 2014, earning a -0.28 Rushing NEP per carry on 36 attempts. Based on the metrics entering Week 14, that mark would be last on the team.
