Chargers' Antonio Gates wants to return for 2019
Los Angeles Chargers tight end Antonio Gates says he wants to play in 2019.
"I just don't see myself walking away with this taste," Gates said after the Chargers' 41-28 Divisional Round loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday. "But that has to be a collective decision. I can't just want to come back. So we'll see how it goes." Gates wasn't expected to be on the Chargers this season before Hunter Henry tore his ACL in OTAs, so there's no guarantee the future Hall-of-Famer will be brought back for what would be a 17th NFL season at the age of 39.
Gates caught 28 passes for 333 yards and 2 touchdowns on 45 targets in the regular season and added 76 yards and 1 touchdown on 9 receptions (12 targets) in the postseason.
