Super Bowl Futures Betting Update: Week 5

The odds to win the Super Bowl for a lot of teams -- both our nERD-based numbers as well as the betting odds at Super Bowl odds -- differ greatly from those same numbers just one week ago. Here are five teams whose markets shifted considerably after last week's action.

Seattle Seahawks

FD Sportsbook Title Odds: +800 (11.1%)
numberFire Title Odds: 10.4%

The Seattle Seahawks continue to see their odds of Super Bowl glory increase in the eyes of the betting industry through four weeks of the season. The Seahawks, +1100 a week ago, are now in at +800.

Our numbers give them a 10.4% chance of total victory at the season's end - itself a jump from 9.8% a week ago. Their odds would no doubt be greater if it were not for their porous pass defense. The Seahawks are ranked 11th overall by our nERD metric, dragged down by a ranking of dead last against the pass.

Cleveland Browns

FD Sportsbook Title Odds: +4000 (2.4%)
numberFire Title Odds: 0.8%

The Cleveland Browns' victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday propelled them to a 3-1 mark and subsequently made them more attractive to bettors.

This time last week, the Browns were distant outsiders at +4400. Now, they stand as... not quite so distant outsiders, at +4000. Still, this is the first time their odds have improved in the last three weeks.

Carolina Panthers

FD Sportsbook Title Odds: +13000 (0.8%)
numberFire Title Odds: 0.4%

The biggest jump in odds in the last week was for the Carolina Panthers. Suddenly frisky at 2-2, the Panthers have won their last two games. They sit ranked 20th according to nERD. Their Super Bowl odds were +21000 this time a week ago.

But saying that, they are still at +13000 -- with numberFire odds of Super Bowl victory at a less-than-encouraging 0.4%.

San Francisco 49ers

FD Sportsbook Title Odds: +2500 (3.8%)

numberFire Title Odds: 2.7%

The 25-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night was something of a bump to the hopes of the San Francisco 49ers. They fall from +1700 to +2500 and find themselves behind four other NFC teams in the betting market.

They also took a hit by our numbers, with their Super Bowl title odds falling from 6.2% to 2.7%. No team saw a larger drop after the last week of action.

Arizona Cardinals

FD Sportsbook Title Odds: +5000 (2%)

numberFire Title Odds: 0.5%

It was nice to believe in the Arizona Cardinals while we could, wasn't it? But two losses in a row have followed their two wins in a row in Weeks 1 and 2.

As such, the market has adjusted for them once again. The Cardinals are now at +5000 after being available at +3500 last week. This takes them back to where they were before the first game of the season had even kicked off.
