3 Fantasy Football Quarterback Streaming Options for Week 3

Quarterback streaming isn't for everyone, but if you're in a standard league -- like a 10- or 12-team league that features just one starting signal caller -- grabbing potentially productive quarterbacks in good matchups off the waiver wire is often doable.

Sure, you won't have the luxury of setting it and forgetting it with Patrick Mahomes as your quarterback, but when the top-end signal callers draw a tough matchup, their upside can oftentimes be matched by a waiver-wire option in a more favorable situation.

If you're looking for some quarterback options from the waiver wire -- regardless of league size -- we have you covered. Here are three quarterbacks rostered in fewer than roughly 30% of Yahoo leagues who are in good spots this week.

Gardner Minshew, Jaguars

Yahoo Roster Percentage: 33%

Gardner Minshew is the clear top streamer this week. Minshew and the Jacksonville Jaguars host the Miami Dolphins on Thursday night, and Miami has allowed the second-most fantasy points to opposing passers through two weeks, including a monster outing to Josh Allen in Week 2.

This isn't all about the matchup, though. Minshew has been good in each of the first two games -- in both real life and fantasy. After putting up 20.82 fantasy points in a one-incompletion effort against the Indianapolis Colts in the opener, Minshew totaled 23.46 fantasy points at the Tennessee Titans in Week 2. He ran for exactly 19 yards in each game and is the QB11 through two weeks.

Our model is really high on Minshew for this week, projecting a QB1 (top-12) outing from him. We have Minshew as our QB11, forecasting him for 18.10 fantasy points.

Justin Herbert, Chargers

Yahoo Roster Percentage: 3%

This is a placeholder for whoever the Los Angeles Chargers start under center. Coach Anthony Lynn said it would be Tyrod Taylor if Taylor is healthy, but from a fantasy perspective, we should be pulling for Justin Herbert to get the nod as Herbert offers a little more upside based on what we saw in Week 2.

Either way, this is a really nice spot for the Bolts' offense as they're at home against the Carolina Panthers, and the Chargers are early 7.5-point favorites with a 25.75-point implied total.

Our model has Herbert starting, and we project him for 15.59 fantasy points, good enough to make him our QB25. If it winds up being Taylor, he'd likely have a similar projection. And both guys can get it done with their legs -- Herbert ran for 18 yards and a score in his debut -- which lifts the floor and ceiling for each.

Baker Mayfield, Browns

Yahoo Roster Percentage: 47%

Baker Mayfield gets his second straight sweet home matchup as the Cleveland Browns host the Washington Football Team in Week 3.

In Week 2, Mayfield had an efficient 219 yards on just 23 attempts, throwing for two touchdowns and one pick against the Cincinnati Bengals. The lack of passing volume caps his ceiling as he posted just 15.26 points in that one, but he's capable of a similar day versus Washington in a game in which Cleveland is a 7.0-point favorite with a 25.75 implied total.

Our model has Mayfield totaling 15.92 fantasy points and ranks him as the week's QB23. He's a fine start in two-quarterback formats, and he's a decent dart throw in deeper one-quarterback leagues.
