What Are the Indianapolis Colts Getting in Jacob Eason?

With the 122nd pick in the draft, the Indianapolis Colts selected Washington Huskies quarterback Jacob Eason.

Eason fell to the fourth round, which isn't too surprising, but FanDuel Sportsbook had him slated at an over/under at 52.5. Eason enters 2020 behind Philip Rivers and Jacoby Brissett and is a long-term investment for the Colts. Let's take a look at Eason's history and what this draft pick means for the Colts.

Eason's College Journey

Eason was a transfer from Georgia and played well in his final season at Washington. Eason was ranked as a five-star prospect and the No. 4 overall recruit in the 2016 class by 247Sports and started 12 games as a true freshman in 2016 at Georgia. He was impressive, tossing 16 touchdowns to 8 interceptions on a 55% completion percentage.

He suffered a knee injury as a sophomore that limited him to five games before he opted to transfer to Washington. As a junior at Washington, Eason's numbers rose to a 64.2% completion percentage, and he threw for 3,132 yards with 23 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. One impressive part of his game was that when he had a clean pocket at Washington, Eason threw for 2,742 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions, per PFF.

He's also a mountain of a quarterback at 6-foot-6 and 231-pounds and has the arm strength to go with it. He simply never asserted himself as one of the top quarterbacks in college football, but with only 26 games as a starter for two different universities, Eason still has time to figure it out.

Eason's Future Fantasy Impact

With Rivers and Brissett ahead of him, Eason's fantasy football value is non-existent right now, and the best-case scenario for him is likely competing for the starting job once Rivers leaves town, which could happen after 2020 as Rivers is on a one-year deal.

Eason will have targets to throw to in Indianapolis in Day 2 draft picks Michael Pittman and Jonathan Taylor. This trio of rookies could prosper into the future of the Colts' offense, but Pittman and Taylor have a much better shot to get on the field in 2020 than Eason does.
