3 Fantasy Football Quarterback Streaming Options for Week 9

Quarterback streaming isn't for everyone, but if you're in a standard league -- like a 10- or 12-team league that features just one starting signal caller -- grabbing productive quarterbacks who have good matchups off the waiver wire is often doable.

Sure, you won't have the luxury of setting it and forgetting it with Deshaun Watson as your quarterback, but when the top-end signal callers draw a tough matchup, their upside can oftentimes be matched by a waiver-wire option in a more favorable situation.

We got back on track in Week 8 as Ryan Tannehill scored 19.42 points to finish as the week's QB10. That gives us a QB1 (top-12) finish in five of eight weeks this season, and our per-week average of 16.59 fantasy points is good for the season-long QB16.

If you're looking for some quarterback options from the waiver wire -- regardless of league size -- we have you covered. Here are three quarterbacks owned in fewer than roughly 30% of Yahoo! leagues who are in good spots this week.

Derek Carr, Raiders

Yahoo Ownership: 27%

Derek Carr is this week's top streamer as he's at home versus the Detroit Lions, a defense that's allowed the seventh-most fantasy points per game to quarterbacks.

Carr is coming off his best fantasy output of the season, scoring 23.40 points on the road against the Houston Texans. While that was Carr's first game with more than 16 fantasy points, his floor hasn't been terrible as he's posted at least 13 points in five of seven games.

Carr could have a ceiling game against the Lions, who just allowed Daniel Jones to throw for 322 yards and four scores in a game in Detroit. The Oakland Raiders have Week 9's fourth-best implied total (26.25) in a clash with the week's second-highest over/under (51.0).

Carr checks all the boxes, and we project him for 16.66 points, making him our QB12.

Ryan Fitzpatrick, Dolphins

Yahoo Ownership: 5%

Outside of Carr, we're going to have to dig deep for other streaming options this week. Enter Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Fitzmagic popped for 20.58 points in Week 7 in a difficult matchup with the Buffalo Bills and started well in Week 8 at the Pittsburgh Steelers before finishing with 11.30 points. He's at home against the New York Jets this week, and while it's not an elite matchup, Gang Green is surrendering the 16th-most fantasy points to passers, so it's not a bad spot, either.

Miami is a 5.50-point 'dog, so the game script should be favorable for passing volume, and our models have Fitz as the QB16, pegging him to score 16.14 points.

Sam Darnold, Jets

Yahoo Ownership: 23%

On the other side of that game, Sam Darnold has a nice matchup against the Miami Dolphins, who have allowed the fourth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks.

The problem, of course, is that Darnold has been awful this season outside of a 19.62-point outing against the Dallas Cowboys. In his three other starts, he's scored 13.0, -6.66 and 12.62 points. Still, the matchup keeps him in play as a bye-week replacement in deeper formats or two-quarterback leagues.

We have him as Week 9's QB18, forecasting him for a total of 15.31 points.
