Terrance West and Isaiah Crowell, RB, Cleveland Browns

With Ben Tate out in Cleveland, the Browns’ backfield is a little less crowded. The frustrating part about this team’s rushing attack is that it’s a revolving door - it’s difficult to predict who will get the lion’s share of carries. Last week, it was the undrafted Isaiah Crowell (priced at $3,800 this week) who toted the ball 14 times for 61 yards. The previous week it was rookie Terrance West ($3,400) running 26 times for 94 yards and a touchdown.

The Browns seem determined to make Crowell the first option, but he’s had issues with fumbling. West, meanwhile, has been the better runner in Cleveland according to our metrics, with a Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP) total of 1.27 (Crowell checks in at -.95).

Many people will be all over Crowell this week, but I actually like West because he’s $400 cheaper, catches more passes and is averaging more fantasy points per game on the year. Not to mention, Crowell has never gone over 14 rushing attempts in a game this year, while West has done it four times.

On top of all that, the Browns take on the Atlanta Falcons this week, who rank dead last in fantasy points given up to running backs. With electric wide receiver Josh Gordon back, the Falcons won’t be able to stack the box, so there should be plenty of room for the running backs. This is a perfect matchup for the Browns, and both West and Crowell can be productive - good luck figuring out which one it will be.
