Colin Kaepernick, QB, San Francisco 49ers

When your fantasy season is on the line and your place in the playoffs hanging in the balance, do you think you can rely on a quarterback averaging just over 11 fantasy points in the last three weeks? I certainly wouldn't rest easy on Saturday night with the 49ers' Colin Kaepernick in my starting lineup. The positive is that Kaep is on pace to match his rushing yardage total from last year, despite a lower average per carry. However, Kaepernick has no rushing touchdowns in 2014, after rushing for five in a little over half a season in 2012, and four last year. He is due for some upward regression on this front, but I wouldn't expect him to even match last year's count.

Without that solid rushing base to add to his weekly fantasy totals, Kaep is just a fairly mediocre passer. He has multiple touchdowns in just three games this year, and has turned the ball over an average of once per game. In fact, he's only eclipsed 250 yards passing in just two weeks this year. With the San Francisco offense struggling on the whole, I wouldn't rely on Kaepernick until he proves his worth again, even in what should be a good matchup against the New York Giants, who are ranked 21st in Adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points (NEP).
