Diversity of the Patriots' Rushing Attack

The Patriots ended the regular season with the league's sixth-best rush offense, per numberFire metrics, and they've been dominant in two postseason games.

Over the past two weeks, the Patriots have averaged 165.5 rushing yards per game, up from their regular season average of 127.3. Sony Michel and Rex Burkhead have combined to score eight touchdowns in the playoffs, taking much of the burden off of Brady. While the Patriots have scored 41 and 37 points in each of their postseason games, respectively, Brady has thrown just two touchdown passes with the Patriots leaning on the run game.

During the regular season, the Rams rush defense ranked as the league's 11th-worst, per numberFire metrics, but they have stymied opposing backs in the playoffs. The Rams held Ezekiel Elliott to 20 carries for 47 yards in the divisional round before holding Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram to a combined 17 carries for 46 yards in the conference championship game.

While the Rams were able to shut down opposing running games throughout the playoffs, they were exploited by Kamara in the passing game. Kamara finished the game with 11 receptions for 96 yards and that's where James White enters the picture. Ever the playoff hero, White has 19 receptions for 146 yards in this postseason.

With three talented backs all capable of exploiting the Rams defense in various ways, it will be difficult for the Rams to contain Burkhead, Michel, and White come Sunday.
