8 Fantasy Football Sleepers for Week 13
Derek Carr, QB, Oakland Raiders
Derek Carr's recent fantasy performances haven't exactly inspired confidence -- finishing with fewer than 10 fantasy points in three of his last five games.
Of those three games, though, two came against teams that rank top-10 in numberFire's Adjusted Defensive Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per play metric. He did flop against a bottom-10 San Francisco 49ers defense, but he also put up a reasonable 15.7 fantasy points against the Arizona Cardinals (ranked 13th) and beat up on the Indianapolis Colts (24th) for 27.8 fantasy points.
Carr also has a 31.6-point showing in his game log this season, so we know he's not without a ceiling.
His matchup this week isn't necessarily a good one for real football purposes as our models have the Kansas City Chiefs ranked 10th against the pass, but KC's D has been much friendlier from a fantasy standpoint.
The 20.7 fantasy points per game KC has allowed to opposing quarterbacks is the fifth-most in the league, and they have held opposing quarterbacks below 15 fantasy points in only 3 of their 11 games this season.
Carr's certainly not an exciting play, but there aren't many appealing quarterbacks who aren't widely owned this week. If yours is one of the 40-50% of leagues in which Jameis Winston, Baker Mayfield or Dak Prescott are available, they are all preferable to Carr.
