Running Back

Chalk

The chalk could be heavily owned this week at running back, and a few of the expensive running backs seem to be nearly automatic plays.

Melvin Gordon leads our projections at the running back slot (21.1 FanDuel points), and for good reason -- the Los Angeles Chargers possess a strong implied team total (28.25 points), and as 13.0-point favorites, a positive game script could lead to heavy volume for Gordon.

Saquon Barkley is the most expensive running back on the main slate ($9,000), largely influenced by his 34.2-FanDuel point effort a week ago. He also takes aim at an Philadelphia Eagles defense that ranks 23rd against the run and a mediocre 16th against the pass, where Barkley also shines out of the backfield.

Finally, mega-cheap running back Gus Edwards ($5,300) could showcase absurd value yet again and be a popular pick. The Baltimore Ravens host the Oakland Raiders, who stink against the run (fifth-worst).

Pivot

Peyton Barber, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: $5,800 (vs San Francisco 49ers)

With a revolving door at the quarterback position for the Bucs, a recent constant has been the solid play of Peyton Barber, who has now has a stranglehold on the lead running back duties.

Part of an offense that ranks fifth in situation-neutral pace (29.42 seconds), the Tampa Bay Buccaneers-San Francisco 49ers over/under of 53.5 points is easily tops on the main slate. That could pivot many folks to the passing games here, but don't sleep on Barber, who has double-digit touches in each of his last six contests. And he's been a red zone beast, racking up five red zone carries alone in Week 11.

We project Barber for only 7.5 points this week, but his tournament upside rises quickly to 15.99 FanDuel points. In three of his last six games, Barber has hit for 14.5 FanDuel points or more, so he makes for a solid choice at a cheap price point.
