Chris Hogan, WR, New England Patriots

ESPN Ownership: 85%
Yahoo! Ownership: 82%

The primary reason New England Patriots wide receiver Chris Hogan saw so much love in the 2018 offseason was slot receiver Julian Edelman's four-game suspension and the lack of other talented Pats receiving options. This indicated all-but-certainly that Hogan would see a massive uptick in targets and production, since someone needed to replace the looks that Edelman would typically receive.

We’re four games in now, and Hogan has produced just 8 catches on 15 targets for 109 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns; 7.7 PPR fantasy points per game was not the top-tier production that was expected. Instead of Hogan, running back James White has been the major benefactor of Edelman’s absence, with 22 catches on 30 targets for 193 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns.

Now, Edelman’s suspension is over and the Patriots have acquired another quality receiver in Josh Gordon, leading to a crowded receiver room and lack of a clear path to targets for Hogan. This isn’t to say that Hogan is totally useless in fantasy at this point, as even in a similar situation last year he was on a 16-game pace for over 700 yards receiving and 9 touchdowns. You should feel free to drop Hogan in shallower leagues, though, if a higher-upside option is out on the wire.
