Patrick Mahomes, QB, Kansas City Chiefs

Week 1 Salary: $6,700

Week 2 Salary: $7,500

Going into Week 1, there were few players as hyped as Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. After throwing for 9,655 yards in his final two seasons with the Texas Tech Red Raiders, he sat quietly on the bench behind Alex Smith in his first year in the league.

Mahomes was not only okay with that, but he turned down local endorsement deals at the time, showing deference to Smith. He showed flashes of his famous arm this preseason--especially on this throw to Tyreek Hill. It was, thus, no surprise when he was hyped by fantasy analysts from coast to coast.

His Week 1 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers didn't look like great on the surface, but it quickly became much more appealing when Joey Bosa was ruled out with a foot injury. Without their best pass rusher, the secondary opened up, and Mahomes didn't need much room to work with a speedster like Hill ready to turn almost every touch into a touchdown.

Mahomes would finish the day with 256 yards, four touchdowns, 21 yards on the ground, and 28.34 FanDuel points. Not only was the performance good enough to get the Chiefs a road win against a division rival, but it was good enough to earn AFC Offensive Player of the Week.

It's no surprise that his FanDuel salary increased; what is a surprise is that it only increase by $800, especially with a matchup on tap against a Pittsburgh Steelers defense that just allowed Tyrod Taylor to put up 24.58 FanDuel points in horrible weather conditions.

This week's game against the Steelers has an over/under set at 53.5 points, four points higher than the next closest game on the slate. Vegas is expecting a shootout, and you should as well. With this type of matchup on tap and numerous playmakers at his disposal, $7,500 still seems like a steal. Take advantage.
