LeSean McCoy, Buffalo Bills

Rushing NEP Per Carry: -0.18

The Buffalo Bills made sure they got their money's worth out of LeSean McCoy in 2017, and that was certainly the case whenever the team reached the red zone.

Not content with feeding him 36 red-zone rushing attempts, the eighth-most among 38 qualifying players, McCoy also saw 15 red-zone targets in the passing game. Volume did not beget efficiency, however. McCoy managed just 1.72 yards per carry in the red area on his way to 62 total yards. His rushing Rushing Success Rate, the percentage of plays that produced a positive NEP, was 38.89%. This was “good” for 24th out of 38.

The Bills have signed Chris Ivory as a free agent, no doubt with an eye towards sharing out some of McCoy’s workload in general. But Ivory may not be the answer in the red zone. For the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2017, Ivory was the ninth-least efficient ball carrier inside the 20 with a clip of -0.12 Rushing NEP per carry.
