Quarterback

Chalk

Who won't be chalk at quarterback this week?

There are so many matchups to exploit, yet players can frustratingly only choose one. After a massive week against the New York Jets, Alex Smith will be a popular play. With a matchup against an Oakland Raiders defense he scored 25.68 against in Week 7, he has tournament potential written all over him.

Outside of Smith, the most buzz this week is probably for DeShone Kizer against a Green Bay Packers defense that ranks 26th against the pass, per our metrics. He's topped 14 points in four of his last five games, including two 20-plus outings. Though he may have to contend with some windy conditions, he clearly benefits by Josh Gordon's presence. At only $6,400, he opens up a ton of room if you want to double-dip with Le'Veon Bell and LeSean McCoy, or another similar high-end combination.

In his second start, Jimmy Garoppolo will likely have decent ownership as well in a plus matchup against the Houston Texans.

Pivot

Matthew Stafford, $8,000 (at Tampa Bay Buccaneers)

When others are fearful, be greedy. So goes the saying for the stock market and it goes in DFS, as well.

Matthew Stafford has, on paper, one of the best matchup of the week. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers rank 29th against the pass by our metrics, and opposing quarterbacks have scored at least 16 FanDuel points in all but three games. However, Stafford bruised his hand last week, which will definitely scare some people off. He is only the 18th-most tagged quarterback on FanShare this week, and the question mark surrounding his appearance is why there is still no Vegas line for this game as of Friday morning.

Stafford did practice on Wednesday and Thursday, so he should play Sunday barring any setbacks. If he does, he should have no trouble picking apart the Bucs defense, even in a limited capacity. We have Stafford projected for 20.2 points this week, sixth highest on the main slate. With likely low ownership and high upside, he has pivot written all over him.
