Alex Smith, QB, Kansas City Chiefs

FanDuel Price: $7,500

DraftKings Price: $5,900

Well, so much for the new and improved Alex Smith.

Following an unbelievable start to the season in which many thought Smith had somehow turned a corner in his age-33 season, it turns out that was all just the smoke and mirrors of a small sample size. The Kansas City Chiefs offense has been stuck in the mud, and much of it falls on Smith. Over Smith's last four games, he's averaged just 223.5 passing yards a game, to go with 4 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. Over that span he's also mustered just 6.3 yards per pass attempt (YPA).

While he's also not this bad -- he has a career 6.9 YPA -- if we're to assume this is the same old Smith we've always known, then there's little reason to talk ourselves into using him even at low ownership. After all, Smith only threw for 15 touchdowns for the entirety of 2016. The New York Jets rank 20th against the pass by numberFire's schedule-adjusted Net Expected Points (NEP) metric, so the matchup is fine, but there are plenty of cheaper quarterbacks in strong spots without the added risk.

Despite a dud last week, Travis Kelce has otherwise continued to perform well, and is the one piece of this offense you can have weekly confidence in moving forward. Otherwise, Tyreek Hill still has some boom-or-bust potential in tournaments, and if you can stomach it, you will be able to get Kareem Hunt at extremely low ownership after burning everyone the last few weeks.
