Don't Sleep on the San Francisco Receiving Corps

On Sunday, Marquise Goodwin played nine snaps for the San Francisco 49ers before suffering a concussion. Without Goodwin available for the remainder of the game, Aldrick Robinson stepped in and received a whopping 12 targets on 73 snaps.

If Goodwin is ruled out Sunday, Robinson would arguably be in the best possible spot of any receiver in Week 5.

The Indianapolis Colts are currently the 27th-ranked defense according to Adjusted Defensive Passing Net Expected Points (NEP), our in-house metric that you can read about here. Beyond that atrocious mark, the team has also allowed a league-high 26 explosive passing plays -- passing plays that gained at least 20 yards -- and is on pace to allow 43 more than the Oakland Raiders permitted all of last season (61).

The concern here is that the Niners have failed to show any sort of consistent offense under first year head coach Kyle Shanahan. Outside of its shootout against the Los Angeles Rams in which Brian Hoyer averaged 7.5 yards per attempt, San Fran's offense and Hoyer have averaged just 4.78 yards per attempt and 9 total points in three other contests. The good news, however, is that opposing quarterbacks have exploded for an average 293.7 yards, 1.5 touchdowns, and 20.5 fantasy points in four games against the Colts this season.

Even if Robinson were to play opposite of Vontae Davis on the left side of the field, note that Pierre Garcon has still run 30% of his routes from the left side, as per Pro Football Focus. Robinson need only cash in on one explosive play from the right in order to exceed his near-minimum salary on FanDuel ($4,600).
