Kareem Hunt Led the NFL With 40.60 Fantasy Points

In his first NFL game, Kareem Hunt steamrolled through the New England Patriots defense with 22 touches for 246 yards and 3 touchdowns. In standard scoring leagues, Hunt scored at least 9 more fantasy points than any other player, and the nearest running back was 18.10 fantasy points behind him.

Hunt carried the ball 17 times to lead all players with 148 rushing yards and a stunning average of 8.7 yards per carry. He also turned his 5 receptions into 98 receiving yards, which ranked seventh among all players, and gained 30 more yards than the next closest running back. No other Kansas City Chiefs rusher had more than a single carry in the game, and Hunt's five targets tied for the third-most on the team.

He joins Arian Foster (2010) as the only running back since 1999 to record at least 40 fantasy points in Week 1. Foster went on to lead the NFL with 326 fantasy points that season.

Considering only four running backs -- and none since 2006 -- have reached 40 fantasy points more than once in a season, we shouldn't expect Hunt to keep up this pace over 16 games. However, it is clear that he will be the workhorse in Kansas City and is a must-start in fantasy leagues moving forward.
