In the Detroit Lions' first game without Ameer Abdullah, Dwayne Washington split the Lions' backfield with Theo Riddick.

Neither player was particularly impressive, with Washington finishing with 10 carries for 38 yards. Riddick had 10 carries for 9 yards, adding 7 receptions for 39 yards.

But the Lions were playing the Green Bay Packers, whose run defense was second-best in the league, according to numberFire's schedule-adjusted metrics, entering the week. Riddick has always been characterized as a pass-catching back, and that narrative rang true Sunday as Riddick struggled as the primary ballcarrier with his first 5 carries going for -10 yards.

Look for Washington to become more involved next week when the schedule lightens up next week as the Lions travel to face the Chicago Bears' 25th-ranked run defense.
