College Football Daily Fantasy Helper: Saturday 9/28/19 Late Slate

Week 5 of college football is here! FanDuel's Saturday night college football DFS late slate includes 12 games.

In case you're unfamiliar with how it works, you can check out the rules and scoring on FanDuel, where you can hit the lobby each week to see the full array of slates and contests being offered.

As for the basics, your roster consists of a quarterback slot, two running back slots, three wide receiver slots (which also includes tight ends) and one super flex slot. In the flex, you can insert one player from any position, including quarterbacks.

Here, our goal is to help you field a roster full of fantasy goodness, and in true numberFire fashion, we'll use our in-house projections as well as betting totals and advanced statistics to tackle as many slates as possible in the lead-up to the College Football Playoff. This week, we are only breaking down Saturday's late slate, which locks at 7:00 p.m. EST.

Let's breakdown which players are in great spots as well as identify some players with cheap price tags that will allow you to roster the high dollar players.

Quarterbacks

Justin Fields, Ohio State ($10,700) – The sophomore quarterback ranks second in the country in points responsible for per game (28.5 points). Fields has scored at least 33 fantasy points on FanDuel in three of Ohio State Buckeyes’ four games to start the 2019 season. With an implied team total approaching 42 points, Fields has a sky-high ceiling in what could be Ohio State’s first competitive game of the season.

Jordan Love, Utah State ($8,700) – The future early-round NFL Draft pick is averaging 334.3 yards passing per game. He’s attempted at least 34 passes in each of the Utah State Aggies’ three games this season. Look for Love to dominate Colorado State Rams' porous defense. Colorado State has surrendered 20 touchdowns in only four games this season.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson, UCLA ($8,400) - Thompson-Robinson put on a show in UCLA Bruins’ 67-63 comeback win over Washington State Cougars last week. The sophomore signal-caller threw for 507 yards and 5 touchdowns while also running for 57 yards and 2 scores. Look for the young quarterback to build off last week’s thriller as the Bruins take on the defensively challenged Arizona Wildcats. Arizona ranks 120th in total defense (allowing nearly 440 yards per game). Thompson-Robinson has thrown multiple touchdown passes in three of UCLA Bruins' four games this season.

Others to consider: Jake Luton, Sylar Thompson, Spencer Sanders, Matthew McKay, Alex Hornibrook (if he starts), Sawyer Smith, Ryan Hilinski, Clayton Tune, Mason Fine, Khalil Tate, Carson Strong, Cole McDonald, Anthony Gordon

Running Backs

JK Dobbins, Ohio State ($9,900) – Dobbins has scored at least one touchdown in every game this season. He’s averaging 119.3 rushing yards per game. The junior running back should be excited about the matchup with Nebraska Cornhuskers this week. He rushed for 163 yards and 3 touchdowns against Big Red in 2018. Nebraska has already surrendered seven touchdowns to opposing backfields in four games this season.

Jaylen Warren, Utah State ($9,200) – Warren has emerged as the Aggies’ lead back. The junior running back has rushed for 320 yards and 4 touchdowns in only three games this season. This week’s matchup with Colorado State is phenomenal for opposing running backs. Colorado State's run defense has allowed 958 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns in just four games this season.

Greg McRae, Central Florida ($7,600) – McRae had his streak of 10 straight games (dating back to 2018) with a touchdown snapped in last week’s loss to Pittsburgh. He leads the Central Florida Knights with 298 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns on 48 carries this season. This is a phenomenal matchup for McRae as the Connecticut Huskies are allowing 30 points per game. I should also mention that UCF has an implied team total approaching 55.

Others to consider: Cameron Scarlett, Jermar Jefferson (if he plays), Kylin Hill, JaTarvious Whitlow, James Gilbert, Chuba Hubbard, Adrian Killins Jr., Otis Anderson, Cam Akers, Rico Dowdle, Patrick Carr, Maurice Washington (if he plays), Devin Brumfield (if Moss is out), Max Borghi, Joshua Kelley, Toa Taua

Wide Receivers

Siaosi Mariner, Utah State ($8,800) – Mariner has established a great rapport with star quarterback Jordan Love. Through three games, the wide receiver has 20 receptions for 265 yards and 2 touchdowns. The former Utah Utes wide receiver has at least five receptions in each game this season. According to our models, Utah State is projected to score around 56 points in this week’s matchup with Colorado State. Expect Mariner to have a huge part in that offensive output.

Bryan Edwards, South Carolina ($8,100) – Edwards was expected to be the South Carolina Gamecocks' top receiver entering this season. The senior wide receiver has not disappointed as he's caught 20 passes for 304 yards and 3 touchdowns in South Carolina's last three games. This is a good matchup for Edwards and the South Carolina passing game as Kentucky Wildcats rank 85th in the country in passing yards allowed (that includes games with two MAC opponents to start this season).

Courtney Lark, Houston ($5,000) – Lark had 35 receptions for 539 yards and 5 touchdowns as junior in 2018. It looked likely that Lark would play a large role in Houston Cougars' offense in 2019. However, Lark fell out of favor with new head coach Dana Holgerson and has rarely stepped on the field this season. With senior wide receiver, Keith Corbin, opting to redshirt (earlier this week) for the rest of the 2019 season, it appears that Lark will be the next man up.
