Ewing replaces John Thompson III who was let go after 14 seasons at Georgetown. The Hall of Famer becomes the second current Division I coach who is also in the Hall of Fame as a player. Chris Mullin at St. John's is the other. This will be Ewing's first job as a head coach after bouncing around the NBA as an assistant, most recently with the Charlotte Hornets.

The Hoyas have gone 29-36 the last two seasons, missing the NCAA Tournament both years. They had gone to the big dance eight of the previous 10 seasons.
