Celtics' Kyrie Irving undergoes procedure on knee, will miss three-to-six weeks

Boston Celtics guard Kyrie Irving (knee) underwent a minimally-invasive procedure on Saturday to remove a tension wire in his left knee.

What It Means:

In a press release the team says, "the wire was originally placed as part of the surgical repair of a fractured patella sustained during the 2015 NBA Finals. While removal of the wire should relieve irritation it was causing in Irving’s patellar tendon, the fractured patella has fully healed and Irving’s knee has been found to be completely structurally sound. Irving is expected to return to basketball activities in 3-6 weeks." This is a huge blow to the Celtics, and it could end Irving's season depending on how far the Celtics can advance in the playoffs without their two biggest offseason acquisitions.

Irving will end the regular season averaging 37.8 FanDuel points per game.
